- 1300年左右進入英語，直接源自古法語的regreter：re (強調） + greter (哀悼），意爲很久之後；最初源自古日耳曼語的gretan，意爲流淚，哭泣。
用法辨析
- regret的基本意思是“懊悔,惋惜,遺憾”,指對於已經發生或不願發生但又不得不發生的事情在心裡産生一種傷感或抱歉,但已經沒有挽廻的餘地。引申還可指“抱歉”。
- regret既可用作不及物動詞,也可用作及物動詞。用作及物動詞時,後接名詞、代詞、動名詞或that/wh-從句作賓語。可用於被動結搆。
